Celebration of New Life
Thank you to everyone who participated in a joyous celebration of new life. The Journey UMW hosted a baby shower and celebrating the birth of Tapipa Tapafua’s baby girl Namouta (Namo), born on June 23, 2016, and Hannah Kidane’s little boy Steven III, born on August 4, 2016. There were wipers and diapers everywhere. The young mothers were so thankful for the support of the United Methodist Women and members of the church.
Movie Time--October 15
October 15, 2016, Members of the Journey United Methodist Women gathered at Eileen Guillermo’s home, kicked off their shoes, and watched a movie and had open discussion following the movie. We watched the 1956 movie Imitation of Life, starting Lana Turner, Juanita Moore, Sandra Dee, and Susan Kohner. After the movie we discussed issues of racial interaction and hurdles during that time in history and how racial divide is still evident today. Great conversation on relevant topics.
Mini-Mission U--Oct. 29
On October 29, 2016, the Journey United Methodist Women held a mini 3 hour “Mission U” study on Climate Justice – A Call to Hope and Action. Topics of discussion and learning were; Biblical Theology of Creation and Care, What is the Biblical Model of Climate Justice, Why is it a Religious Issue, Climate Injustice-How did we get here, Earth Consequences due to Climate Justice, What Needs to Happen, and How Can We Make it Happen. We used our individual artistic skills to draw what we thought creation looked like. We watched videos related to climate justice and read Bible scripture. We discussed how climate justice impacts women, children, and youth across the United States and globally. We learned that together we can make change. The fellowship and food was great. Thank you Alice Moran for being the Program Coordinator for this event.
