Focus Scripture: Psalm 33:18-22
It is not surprise that these verses in Psalm 33 spoke to me when they speak of God's unfailing love--the subject of the sermon series we are in the middle of at Journey UMC. Our hope is in God's unfailing love.
What does it mean to have unfailing love? Does it mean that we will not have any pain? That God will protect us from the unfairness and the ugliness that life can bring? No.
- “Yet hope returns when I remember this one thing: The Lord's unfailing love and mercy still continue, fresh as the morning, as sure as the sunrise. The Lord is all I have, and so in him I put my hope.” (Lamentations 3:21-24 Good News Translation)
Rick Warren says: "Pain is a natural part of life. You can’t escape it. Broken relationships, missed opportunities, and rough seasons of life will always be with us. When they do come, you can either become bitter or hopeful."
God loves us, unfailingly, undeservedly, completely and without reservations. That is where our hope is. Not that God will protect us from all harm and keep sadness away. But that God will never leave us or forsake us but will instead go with us through the difficulties, giving us the strength to get through, and the courage to go on. No matter where you are or what you are going through right now, know that God is with you, loving you, crying with and for you as you cry, and that God is there to give you the strength and courage to go on. That is unfailing love.
