Focus Scripture: Hebrews 12:22-24
I have to ask: What do you picture when you read this scripture? Is it just because I love a large choir so much that when I read, "thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly" I see and hear a choir? Or do you see and hear it too?
Is there anything that moves the heart and soul like a beautiful choir? For me the answer is clear. A choir singing in harmony, lifting their voices to glory may be the most moving thing I know.
Here are a few of my favorites:
Samuel Barber--Agnus Dei
And of course, Handel's Hallelujah Chorus
What do you picture when you imagine a joyful assembly of thousands of angels? I'm sure it is different than mine. At least for some people. My husband, for example, would be sure he was not in heaven if he had to tolerate choir music. So NOT what he is in to. But the scripture is clear about one thing, I think. It will be wonderful. Imagine all those heavenly beings gathered together to worship and praise and all for God's glory. And there in their midst is God and Jesus, the mediator of all. And we too are welcomed in. That is the image the book of Hebrews sets before us. And image of glory I can lift a joyful voice to. What do you see?
