Focus Scripture:Deuteronomy 6:6-7
I cannot begin to tell you how excited I was to see that today's readings start us into Proverbs. I love the wisdom literature. So why, you may ask, is the focus scripture from Deuteronomy? Because when Wisdom herself lifts a scripture up to you, you listen to her. And today, the scripture that was lifted to me and that grabbed hold of me was Deuteronomy 6:6-7: "These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."
I found myself imagining what it would be like if we did this, if we spend our time talking about what God has taught us. What would happen if we spent time talking to our children about God's wisdom and God's teachings and talked about it all the time--when we are walking, and eating, and sitting at home in the evening? It would certainly make a different for our children but it would also make a difference for us. If we spent our time thinking and speaking and meditating on God's word, we would certainly be different people.
