Focus Scripture: Ephesians 1:15-23
The thematic readings have a common element of creation--God's wondrous creation. And on this New Years, with the sun shining brightly through my windows, the glory of God's creation is indeed evident. But as I was reading, the verses that truly stood out for me, was the prayer, the earnest prayer of thanksgiving, for fellow Christians. I was struck by how empowering it would be to me, and I imagine others, to receive a letter from a church leader we admire, or a fellow church member, saying that they give thanks for us and hold us continually in prayer. That they pray for us to have wisdom and God's gift of discernment so we know the great work God has before us and that we have endless energy and boundless strength to accomplish it! What a blessing that would be! Imagine having endless energy and boundless strength to do what God has for us, and to know, with God's own wisdom and discernment, exactly what it is that God is calling us to do. That is the prayer in Ephesians. Let us take a moment to pray that prayer for our fellow believers and may they (and all of us) have a great start of 2016.
My prayer for you, for whoever is reading this, I give thanks for your faith and your devotion. I give thanks for your interest in God and our Lord Jesus Christ. May you have God's gifts of wisdom and discernment to understand the wonders God has for you, to see the glory of the Lord all around you, and to discern what God is calling you to do in this new year. May you be filled with endless energy and boundless strength to accomplish all that you feel called to do. Many blessings, to you. In the name of Jesus. Amen.
